I decided I needed an applet for my page. So I made my
TravelMap Applet.
It is the most trivial of applets, the total size of the two class files
is about 7k. But it provides some small amusement and it is not another
clock, counter, or silly animation.
If you are trying to reach me, it is usually best to write me an e-mail at danielk at paris.cat.nyu.edu without the paris part. Make sure your e-mail does not contain HTML or attachments unless you call me first, I get too much spam to allow those normally. I am working with the good people at CAT/MRL on some interesting projects. I realized most people didn't know the Lena story when I was showing off my little Palm Pilot picture viewer. So, in case you ever wondered where that ubiquitous picture of a girl in hat comes from just follow the link . She is the one that comes with photoshop and a few other image manipulation packages. For an extra 5 points, which Woody Allen movie includes Lena? If you notice any of my famous misspellings you'll understand the beginnings of my love of a good dictionary. For years I went around thinking upshot was a positive result! Below are Webster, creators of "Word of the Day," Dictionary.com, under the heading Meta, since they search most of the online dictionaries for that hard to find word. There is also a google search, and a google site search of the CAT/MRL, which work very well with a word or two. Then there is Metacrawler which searches all the major engines for those times your Google search returns no results. I considered putting All the Web in there, and maybe even altavista but I only use them for boutique searches. All the Web just contains amazing amounts of info, and altavista reminds me of my days spent working in libraries and teaching people how to do boolean searches.
