My
favorite movie is Manhattan
by Woody Allen, my second favorite is Breakfast
at Tiffany's with Audrey Hepburn. If you've seen these two movies
you probably assume I'm some sort of romantic. Or, maybe just obsessed
with New York, where both movies are set. Maybe there is a little truth
to both. These movies are about beauty and impossible love affairs. Both
have a happy ending, but deep down you know the love can not last, and
they are tragic heroes which you root for because they remind you of your
innocence and downright foolishness when you fall in love. Despite the
fact that I always remember Breakfast at Tiffany's as being in black and
white, and despite all the pictures from it on the web, it actually was
filmed in color. But, just to be consistent with my mental picture, the
one below is not in color.
I also liked Hackers,
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,
and ET. I will not deny
that hackers has no base in reality. Hackers are not sexy, do not have
that top of the line equipment, and do not go to public phone booths to
do their hacking. But it's pretty damned close to what we wanted it to
be. Fear and Loathing was just plain funny, I didn't plan to see it because
of the advertising turned me off, but a friend insisted I see it and she
was right. Finally, ET is the first movie I remember seeing, I was six
or so and I can't tell you how scared I was when Eliot discovered ET in
the shed. And it began my mini-obsession with Drew Barrymore, I always
liked those older women.
